I don't even see what the other side of this argument is. Sex education should be made mandatory in our schools. Its good that chief minister Parkash Singh Badal feels the need to introduce some personality development classes, but they obviously can't be used as a substitution for sex education.
In a country like India where sex talks are considered a taboo and parents refrain from discussing it with their children, sex education is the only way to ensure that adolescents don' feed on half-baked for them, which is dangerous for them, as well as those around them!
This is something that I came across while I was reading about the need for sex education, and I really wanted to share it with all of you. Do read it.
just out of curiosity, are you a promoter of TOI or something!!! i mean all your posts have those labels!

U r absolutely right.. Sex education should be made mandatory.... but our elders are not so comfortable and open with that idea.. so it may take another 5 years or so for the authorites to add such classes..

@Nitin: No. Not really. But since we have subscribed to it, its just convenient.
ReplyDelete@workhard: In fact that is precisely my reason for pushing the idea of making it mandatory. Won't it be less awkward for elders to talk to children who they don't have personal connections with?
well, my first reaction would be do we need education for something that is very natural, which is given by god.
ReplyDeleteit will happen invariably, well kids should be cautioned and they need to be told about diseases, well i think they are managing it well.
so u need not worry, that is the work of the government, to make laws, they are questionable as to why AIDS/HIV and related diseases are on the rise. that's why they
coined such absurd term SEX EDUCATION.
i would like to quote here, the work of a genious, wise man, who is not a hypocrite like you, the man who made american pie, they have tried to make it funny, other
wise it is just what you are talking abt.
tell me what yu think, these are jst tit-bits. well that was not supposed to be offensive to you.

Because there is certain age when children should be introduced to such a thing. Before the nature takes its regular course, the media overloads the child's brain with just too much sexual content. So to help them out in situations like these, which are inevitable now, sex education is required.
ReplyDeleteAnd teaching them about sexual diseases would be in vain if they are not fully aware about their sexuality and how it functions, both biologically and socially.
I think you need to re-think.
i totally agree with the article.. if we still do not allow sex education in school, that wud be only closing your eyes and think that the danger doesn't exist.
